ADSL - Short for asymmetric digital subscriber line, is now widely available throughout the UK from many different ISPs and resellers. ADSL allows much faster internet connections over existing copper telephone lines (POTS). It can support data rates of from .5 to 9 Mbps when receiving data (known as the downstream rate) and from 16 to 640 Kbps when sending data (known as the upstream rate).
Many UK telecoms providers are now selling ADSL or Broadband services at between £20 and £150 per month depending on the service required and the number of users that you want to connect at once. ADSL is a permanent - always on - 24 x 7 service - but despite this you can continue to use the phone line for normal incoming and outgoing telephone calls - as before.
